A registered sex offender living in Kalona is now facing federal child pornography charges.
Washington County Attorney John Gish announced last week that the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa issued an arrest warrant for Jackson Young, 20, pursuant to a federal indictment, charging Young with production of child pornography, receiving child pornography, possession of child pornography and transfer of obscene material on June 11.
Young was already in custody at the Washington County Jail following a March 28 arrest for making contact with a child under 13. Young was convicted in 2017 of sexual abuse third degree against a child under the age of 13 and is a registered sex offender.
Gish said that, following the March 28 arrest, an investigator with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office “searched and reviewed the contents of Young’s mobile devices, and discovered Young possessed obscene materials of several children.”
Investigators referred the case to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Young has been transferred to federal custody.
