Easton Schlabaugh picks up win at North Cedar

Highland freshman Easton Schlabaugh finished on top of the podium for the first time in his young high school career, taking the 106-pound title at the North Cedar Invitational.
In the round-robin bracket featuring four wrestlers, Schlabaugh pinned his way through the competition. He tallied three pins in four minutes 40 seconds. Every single match in the bracket was decided by a pin.
The Huskies had three wrestlers place third, fighting back after early losses in the tournament. Logan Bonebrake was pinned in his first match of the day, falling in 3:28. He came back to win his next three matches, all by pin, to take third place. His final match of the day was a rematch against the opponent that had pinned him earlier. Bonebrake turned things around and pinned Durant’s Nathan Moomey in 41 seconds.
Justin Sosa placed third at 195 pounds, going 2-2 in a round-robin bracket.
Yahir Jimenez was third at 113 pounds. Jimenez went 1-2, winning his final match by pin.
Cael Yeggy and Caedon Harbison finished fourth. Carlos Valenzuela and Brogan Carolan finished fifth.
The Huskies hosted a SEISC triangular meet against Van Buren and Mediapolis on Thursday. The Huskies routed Van Buren 73-0. In the seven contested matches Highland went 7-0.
The Huskies then beat Mediapolis 42-33. The match started out 18-0 in favor of Highland. Schlabaugh pinned his opponent at 106, Highland took a forfeit at 113 and Carlos Valenzuela earned a late pin at 120.
Mediapolis got on the board with two straight pins at 126 and 132 pounds. There were forfeits in favor of Highland at 138 and 145, 152 pounds went in favor of Mediapolis.
Highland’s Kolton Miller was pinned at 160 pounds. Caedon Harbison dropped an 8-2 decision at 170 pounds. Cael Yeggy and Eli Slaymaker picked up forfeit wins at 182 and 195.
The Huskies went on to win 42-33.
Two Huskies won junior varsity brackets at Marion on Saturday, Bryce Thompson and Ethan Paisly.
The Huskies have a busy week before winter break. On Tuesday, Highland traveled to Lynnville-Sully for a dual meet.
The Huskies will travel to Louisa-Muscatine on Thursday for a pair of duals.
They finish off their pre-break schedule with a trip to North Linn for a tournament.
