Robinson reelected as Highland board president, Allen as VP

Nate Robinson was named the board president and Megan Allen was elected vice president at the annual meeting of the Highland School Board on Nov. 9. Both were immediately sworn in.

The News was named the official newspaper for publication of minutes and notices. Peoples Trust and Savings Bank in Riverside, Hills Bank in Hills and UMB Bank in Kansas City, MO, were named financial institutions for the school district for the 2020-21 fiscal year for the Highland school district.

The board voted to again hold regular monthly meetings at 6 p.m. during the school year (September through May) and at 5 p.m. during the summer months (June, July and August). The board agreed to retain the same legal counsel and to re-appoint Sue Rich as school board secretary and treasurer.

The following committees were approved:

Finance & personnel: Kevin Engel, Rachel Longbine, and Samantha Holden.

Transportation: Mike Golden and Nate Robinson.

Board policy review: Nate Robinson and Megan Allen.

Legislative/IASB delegate: Nate Robinson.

Washington County Conference board: Mike Golden.

School Improvement Committee: Megan Allen, Kathy Butler and Samantha Holden.

Technology: Mike Golden, Rachel Longbine and Kathy Butler.

Level I and II investigators: Level I — Building principals, Level II — Washington Co. Sheriff’s Dept.EEO/AC: Bill Zywiec.

Instructional coaches Angie Strobel and Angie Alberts presented work they do for their jobs to the board. They talked about their MTSS program (Multi-Tiered System of Support) and how they are working with 6th graders on their reading and math skills. 

Matt Wildman of HR Green and presented drawings of the location of the new sewage treatment ponds to be located on the southeast corner of the middle school property. The board approved 50% plans so HR Green can move forward getting design plans to 90% completed.  those plans are to be provided the board soon.
