Riverside will be the center of the Star Trek universe this weekend with Trekfest XXXV.
This year’s theme is “Aliens of Star Trek,” with special guest actress/stunt woman Sandra Gimpel, who played the memorable “Salt Vampire” in the episode “The Man Trap.”
Gimple will be signing autographs and meeting fans at 7 p.m., Friday at the Voyage Home Museum and at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the Riverside Fire Station.
The celebration begins at 5 p.m., Friday with a vendor fair and bouncy houses at Hall Park. The Bill Riley Regional Talent Show takes the Red Barn Stage at Hall Park at 5:30 p.m.
Hall Park will also host a pet show at 7:30 p.m., and singer/songwriter Abbie Callahan, a former contestant on “The Voice,” on the Red Barn Stage at 8:30 p.m.
The demolition derby will be in the pit at the east corner of Hall Park beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the demolition derby is $10.
At 8 p.m., there is a Star Trek trivia contest at Purple Park.
The Cedar Valley Astronomy Club hosts a star gaze at 9:30 p.m. at Highland Elementary School.
The night ends with Star Trek shows at the Red Barn Stage.
Saturday kicks off with a pancake breakfast at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 7 a.m.-noon
The 5K run is scheduled to launch at 8 a.m. at Hall Park.
A parade through the streets of the future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk gets underway at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., there will be a Star Trek costume contest on the Red Barn Stage.
The kids’ bouncy houses at Hall Park open at 11 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m.
The fire station hosts a kids’ water fight from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The Tanya English Band will rock the Red Barn Stage from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
At Highland Elementary School, the robotics team will host a robotics tournament from 1-7 p.m.
Crazy Delicious takes the Red Barn Stage at 8 p.m. and will play until 11:30 p.m.
The weekend culminates with a fireworks display at dusk.
