Riverside Casino & Golf Resort proudly dedicated its Giving Back Program to veterans in November. The Giving Back Program’s match play fundraiser generated $12,910 for the Iowa Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 2. Riverside also hosted 279 veterans for a free buffet on Veterans Day after a flag ceremony led by Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major Jim Dickerson along with Riverside VFW Post 6414.

Damon John, Riverside General Manager, explained why the company focused on veterans.

"Our goal to recognize veterans for their service to our nation is a priority at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, we are proud to have served meals to veterans as well as hosting a Veterans Day Flag ceremony,” he said. “Through our Giving Back program, we were able to raise $12,910 for DAV in the month of November. Our support for veterans is continued year-round, working with organizations such as the Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere Foundation and the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic.”

“DAV Chapter 2 greatly appreciates the thoughtful financial support of the Riverside Casino and Resort (RCR) for their exceptional boost to our mission of helping all veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned,” Paul Janecek, DAV, Chapter 2 Treasurer said.

“About every other year Chapter 2 purchases a new replacement van for the transport of all veterans needing rides to their VA medical appointments at both the Davenport Clinic and Iowa City Hospital,” he continued. “The 2023 van cost Chapter 2 $30,800.00, and we must work to raise money for the next one with fundraisers and donations in the years between. Right now, as you would suspect, our van fund is depleted from this year's purchase. So RCR's Giving Back Program is especially timely and greatly appreciated to replenish the Van Fund.”

In addition to the van purchase, Chapter 2 also provides for food to homeless and needy veterans, supports numerous VA support programs for veterans and families of veterans, and aids the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

“All of us at Chapter 2 and the veterans we help are grateful to RCR for teaming with us and providing this financial support,” Janecek said.
