SIGOURNEY

From Rowan Miller scoring the first goal to Isaac Birky scoring the game ending goal, Hillcrest was in total control of their first road game of the season from beginning to end.

Collecting their third straight victory, the Ravens exploded on offense and smashed the Sigourney Savages, 10-0, on April 9.

Hillcrest scored five goals in the first half and five more in the second to end the game with five minutes left on the clock due to the mercy rule.

It was also a clean sheet for the Ravens on the defensive end, giving up zero goals. Splitting duties as goalkeeper were juniors Kyle Neuschwander and Andrew Kauffman. Neuschwander recorded one save.

The Ravens had five different players score a goal in this road win. Miller scored a team high four goals and Micah Gerber scored three of his own. Jesse Blossom, Phoenix Anderson, and Isaac Birky each scored one goal.

Miller continues to excel on offense for the Ravens in his sophomore season. After scoring one goal a year ago he is already up to six goals through three games.

After scoring the first goal of the game, with two minutes left in the first half, Miller scored his second.

In the second half he used a header to score off a corner kick from Seth Ours and then one minute later he scored again using his head off a throw-in from Lincoln Miller.

For Gerber his first goal was also a header off a long pass from Isaac Beachy and then two minutes later he scored his second due to miscommunication by the Sigourney defense. He completed his hat trick by scoring the first goal in the second half.

As a team Hillcrest recorded eight assists. Mason Swartzendruber, Lincoln Miller, and Ours all ended the game with a team high two assists.

Hillcrest 1, Burlington ND 0

To remain undefeated on the season, the Ravens went on the road and narrowly defeated the Burlington Notre Dame Nikes on April 12.

It was a scoreless contest in the first half but that changed in the second when Hillcrest’s Mason Swartzendruber scored a goal to give the Ravens the lead.

Making sure Swartzendruber’s goal ended up being the game winning goal, the Raven defense did not allow the Nikes to score, finishing the game with a shutout, their third of the season.

This great defensive effort that gave the Burlington offense trouble all game long was done by Bryce Bailey, Mason Helmuth, Isaac Birky, Lincoln MIller, Mason Bender, and Seth Ours.

Hillcrest’s goalkeeper Kyle Neuschwander was also vital in the shutout, recording five saves.
