Wellman residents with a green thumb have an opportunity to show off their talents.
The Wellman Community Garden has a dozen plots available. Each plot is 10 feet by 12 feet. There is a $10 charge for the season.
The garden is located just north of Wellman City Park.
Part of the land is used to raise produce for donation to local food pantries, schools and day care centers.
Last year, gardeners donated 1,500 pounds of produce.
Tools are provided. Students from Hillcrest Academy help maintain the garden, and there are expert gardeners available to offer planting advice for novices.
For more information or to sign up for a plot, contact Dawn Jones, 319-646-6712.
