Physical Therapy Services offer wide range of therapies

Physical Therapy Services (PTS), P.C., 423 B Avenue, Kalona, offers a full scope of physical therapy services in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, serving patients from Kalona and surrounding communities.

“We offer reliable, top-quality therapeutic treatments for chronic pains, headaches, spine conditions, Fibromyalgia, TMJ syndrome, and pain management in a calm, comfortable atmosphere,” said Amy Haifley, DPT, therapist and owner.

PTS is a general physical therapist, offering a wide range of therapy including post-surgical, therapy for specific pain, developmental delays, neuromuscular therapy, vestibular rehab, therapy for people having issues with dizziness, etc.

PTS uses ultrasound and electronic stimulus as well as hands-on manual therapy. There is also a small gym with a variety of equipment to assist patients in their rehabilitation. This includes the NuStep exercise machine, an exercise bicycle, a treadmill, medicine ball, and weights.

After getting her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from St. Ambrose University in Davenport in 2005, Haifley started to work for Pam Hazel and purchased the practice in 2012, when Hazel retired.

Haifley’s sister, Abigail (Abby) Keinroth, joined PTS in 2013 after earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine.

“I was excited about the amazing opportunity for us to work together and share our love for physical therapy,” Amy said. “With our practice in a smaller community, we get to help people of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and we get to know our patients better.”

Amy said the practice gets referrals from doctors in Iowa City, Riverside, Washington, Wellman, and surrounding communities. Most of their patients are from an approximate 25-mile radius of Kalona.

“Kalona is a very warm and supportive community,” Abby said. “We are pleased with the supportive business community as well as the warm and friendly people we serve.”

Both Amy and Abby must complete 40 hours of advanced education in physical therapy every two years. Both note that as surgeries become less invasive, recovery with proper physical therapy is much quicker.

Amy and Abby both said they developed their love for physical therapy while attending school in their hometown of Independence. Amy discovered the value of physical therapy after spraining her ankle in 7th Grade.

“That experience really intrigued me in developing an interest in physical therapy,” Amy said. “I really love the health care profession and helping people make a change for a better life.”

Abby gained her interest in physical therapy when she did an internship with a physical therapy firm while she was in high school.

“That experience highlighted my passion for health care and desire to help people,” Abby said.

Amy and her husband Shawn live in Keota with their son, Chase, 12, and daughter Cameron, 10. Amy is very involved volunteering in the Keota Youth Athletic Program for 3rd through 6th graders, coaching basketball, volleyball and helping where she can.

Abby and her husband, Dr. Andrew (Andy) Keinroth, live in Riverside. Andy is a chiropractor with an office in Tiffin: Tiffin Chiropractic Center. They enjoy spending time with family, friends and their chocolate lab. They are expecting their first child in November.
