The 2023 Riverside Fire Department started preparing for this year’s Pancake Breakfast with cleanup the day before, moving all the equipment outside to hose down the entire station. Meanwhile, members of the Catholic Church were busy baking hundreds of homemade kolaches for the event.
The doors were opened at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning to welcome the community. Curtis Sexton, Riverside Volunteer Firefighter, estimated that a little over 1,000 people showed up or picked up a breakfast over the course of the morning and firemen raised $14-15,000 to purchase battery-operated extrication equipment that will cost $18,000.
Next year’s event will also be about this time in the spring. It will be coordinated around the annual Washington County Emergency Training that was featured this year on KCRG, Channel 9, that was held at the Riverside training area east of town.
