What started in the driveway as playing horse with her dad has led to Myah Lugar becoming the all-time leader in 3-pointers made at Mid-Prairie.
The Golden Hawk junior recently passed the record of 87 previously set by Jessica Larson. Lugar hit No. 88 in a win at North Cedar before the break.
“Just when I was younger with my dad we would always play horse in the driveway and that’s where it built from,” Lugar said. “I grew up watching my sister play and grew up watching Iowa games and stuff.”
Lugar has been remarkably consistent when it comes to being a 3-point option for Mid-Prairie. Over the last two seasons she has a made 3-pointer in 27 of 28 games.
“I credit it all to my teammates,” Lugar said. “We have great scorers that can do so outside and inside so that opens it up for me to shoot threes.”
She said the deep shooting didn’t come naturally, but once she worked it in as part of her game it has only gotten easier.
“Myah works really hard at it,” Mid-Prairie coach Danny Hershberger said. “She puts in a lot of time on her own shooting and it is paying off for her.”
The Mid-Prairie junior currently sits at 90 made 3-pointers. She is 90-258 over her career, a 35% mark.
“It really opens up our offense and gives us some more options,” Hershberger said. “It makes other teams extend their defense out and get out and guard her. It is a real asset to have Myah out there being able to stretch a defense out.”
With at least 38 games remaining in her career over the rest of her junior and senior seasons, Lugar has a shot at setting a new mark that will stand for years to come.
Lugar said that while she was happy to break the record, she isn’t focused on records but finding a way to win as a team.
“I’m just really excited to see where this team goes. We’re really close and a hard-working group and I can’t wait to see where it goes.”
