Mid-Prairie wrestling faces off with Highland, RVC foes

Mid-Prairie took down Highland as part of a four-team meet last week.
The Golden Hawks got out to an early lead as Highland forfeited 170 pounds through heavyweight. That gave Mid-Prairie a 30-0 lead. Easton Schlabaugh picked up a forfeit victory at 106 for Mid-Prairie.
At 113 pounds, Yahir Jimenez picked up the first takedown of the match early on. Mose Yoder was able to reverse it and eventually that led to a pin with 15 seconds left on the clock in the first period.
The final three contested weights of the night all finished by fall. Carlos Valenzuela pinned Spencer Grout at 120 pounds. Ethan Paisley picked up a pin over Noah Ford at 132 pounds for Highland.
The Huskies also picked up a pin at 152 pounds in an exciting match between Brogan Carolan and Aiden West. Carolan was up 7-0 in the second period before West scored a takedown of his own. The two then had a long scramble before Carolan came up with a reversal and eventual pin as the seconds wound down in the second period of their match.
The dual also had four exhibition matches. Michael Kelly pinned his opponent in 21 seconds and Beau Stutzman pinned Eli Slaymaker in 29 seconds. Maddie Peiffer won a pair of exhibition matches, beating Mia Garvey 5-3 and Marissa Cline 4-2.

Tipton 40, Mid-Prairie 36
Everything was going Mid-Prairie’s way over the first half of the dual. They held a 30-3 lead over Tipton as five Golden Hawk wrestlers in a row pinned their opponents.
Cael Garvey, Cory Allen, Isaac Boucher, Josh Wallington and Gannon Callahan all pinned their opponents from 170 pounds to heavyweight. Tipton picked up a forfeit at 106 pounds that started a 6-1 run of matches for them from 106-152. Spencer Grout picked up a forfeit victory at 120, but other than that Tipton stormed back for the 40-36 dual win.

Mid-Prairie 69, West Branch 6
Mid-Prairie dominated West Branch, wrestling a near-perfect dual against the Bears.
The Golden Hawks won six of seven contested weights in the dual. All were decided by fall expect an 11-7 win for Josh Wallington over Dalyn Pedersen at 220 pounds.
Wallington scored five takedowns to just one for Pedersen to win the match. Wallington had a productive second period, quickly escaping from the bottom position and then tallying three takedowns in the period.
Aiden West, Cory Allen, Noah Ford, Isaac Boucher and Owen Trimpe won by fall. The only loss of the night came at 138 pounds, but Clarke Latcham nearly had the overtime victory. Latcham had position and took a shot in overtime, but before he could get a solid hold on his opponent’s leg he was thrown off balance and taken down to his back before getting pinned.

Tipton 57, Highland 21
Forfeits sunk Highland in a dual meet against Tipton last week, but the Huskies picked up wins in three contested matches.
Caedon Harbison won a 14-0 major decision, nearly scoring a technical fall over his opponent.
Cael Yeggy had the most exciting match of the dual, with a come-from-behind pin to win his match. Yeggy trailed 4-0 in the third period of the match before a reversal with 30 seconds left gave him a shot to win. Yeggy eventually turned his opponent and pinned him with 24 seconds left to take the match.
Easton Schlabaugh put up a scoring clinic to tech-fall his opponent 26-11. His opponent scored 11 points off escapes on his 12 takedowns.

Highland 39, West Branch 21
Highland cruised to a dual victory over West Branch behind pins from Caedon Harbison and Ethan Paisley, with Brogan Carolan picking up a win in overtime.
There were four contested matches in the dual, with Highland winning three of the four.
Carolan forced overtime at 152 pounds by exploding up out of the bottom position with less than five seconds left. His opponent locked hands and gave Carolan a penalty point to tie things 4-4 as the buzzer sounded.
In overtime he took down his opponent to win 6-4.
