Mid-Prairie sends three groups to All-State

Highland and Lone Tree perform well at state speech contest

Students from three area schools performed at IHSSA State Large Group Speech Contest at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids on Saturday.

On Monday afternoon, it was announced that three groups from Mid-Prairie High School were nominated to the All-State Festival in Ames on Feb. 22.

The musical theatre group of Em Marner and Kyra Helmuth, performing from (title of show) were selected as All-State performers.

Nominated as All-State non-performers were the group improvisation group “Transcondimentals” with Em Marner, Terra Richardson and Magnolia Graber, and the ensemble acting group “Student Council” with Liv Caskey, Gavin Frascht, Kelby Gingerich, Kyra Helmuth, Ainsley Miller and Marina Richardson.

In all, 32 Mid-Prairie High School students competed in eight events at the state competition Saturday.

Receiving a Division I rating were:

• Ensemble acting: “Tourist Attraction” with Terra Richardson and Levi Stultz.

• Ensemble acting: “Crash Positions” with Magnolia Graber and Cooper Thomas.

• Readers theatre: “Sorry, Wrong Number” with Ethan Bontrager, Danielle Brown, Jesi Donaldson, Hannah Glick, Gabi Knepp, Elizabeth Meader, Trevor Nida, Emily Righter, Andrew Stultz and Riley Yoder.

Groups who earned a Division II rating were:

• One act play: “4 A.M.” with Marina Beachy, Ethan Bontrager, Danielle Brown, Alex Burnham, Zoe Fisher, Avery Frede, Kelby Gingerich, Gabi Knepp, Owen McArtor, Shian Muller, Trevor Nida, Marina Richardson, Emily Righter, Jennifer Sanchez, Andrew Stultz, Levi Stultz, Cooper Thomas, Elizabeth Meader and Mason Burrows.

• Group improvisation: Diego Alaya, Mason Burrows, Dylan Bunting and Noah Frede.

Lone Tree High School had four groups that participated in Saturday’s state competition.

The choral reading group “Back in the Day” with Lilian Miller, Kylie Patterson, Kayla Dautremont, Holley Johnson, Emma Slaughter, Ella Buser, Braden Viers, Bailey Pierson, Allison Marshek, Alex Viner, Abby Buckman, Whitney Willoz, Natalie Patterson, Macie Bopp and Lindsay Werbach earned a Division I rating.

The reader’s theatre group of “First on the Rope” with Macie Bopp, Allison Marshek, Sammy Loving, Ashley Yedlik, Lauren Bell and Skylar Smith also earned a Division I rating.

Lone Tree groups earning a Division II rating were:

• Group improvisation: Adam Knock, Alberto Cortes, Kyle Zaruba, Nick Floyd and Skylar Smith.

• Group mime: “Toy Trouble” with Sara Branson and Ashley Yedlik.

Highland High School was represented at the state competition by the group improvisation group of Kadin Jepson, Kyle Whestine and Jacob Allen.

That group earned a Division I rating.
