From Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider:
Dear Parents,
I have some good news. The school district is moving ahead with plans to provide breakfast and lunch meals to district students whose families want them.
We have applied for a waiver from the federal government in order to help pay for this, but even if we don’t receive the waiver, I have organizations and individuals who have offered to provide assistance.
We are planning on starting this service next Wednesday, March 25 and would do it two times a week, Monday and Wednesday.
Monday’s meal delivery/pickup would include Monday lunch, Tuesday breakfast & lunch, and Wednesday breakfast.
Wednesday’s delivery/pickup would include Wednesday lunch, Thursday breakfast & lunch, and Friday breakfast & lunch.
All meals would be prepared and packaged in school district kitchens.
For now, this would be a free service and the last delivery date would be Wednesday, April 8.
Pick up times and locations on Monday and Wednesday will be the following:
KALONA:
This would be for families living north of Highway 22 and surrounding area.
This would be for families living south of Highway 22 and surrounding area.
WELLMAN:
This would be for families living north of Highway 22 and surrounding area.
This would be for families living south of Highway 22 and surrounding area.
WEST CHESTER
This would be for families living in West Chester and surrounding area.
OTHER
This would be for families living in Washington Township area.
Delivery would be arranged for anyone living outside of the towns who doesn’t have transportation to get to one of the pickup spots. Deliveries would be made between 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Students who open enroll from outside of the district can come to any of the pickup spots. There will be no deliveries outside of the district.
No pickups spots will be offered at the school locations.
If families sign up, they are signing up for all days. It would be too confusing to let parents pick and choose certain dates.
The meals would be for any student 18 years and younger. Per USDA guidelines, the children eating the meals are supposed to be at the delivery/pickup location.
In order to accurately prepare the number of meals and arrange the appropriate number of drivers and vehicles, we need parents to respond to an electronic survey. You can find the survey here:

The deadline for completing the electronic survey is Monday, March 23 at 3 p.m.
If you are having problems with the electronic survey, please call Central Office at 319-646-6093 on Monday, March 23 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with the pertinent information.
