Lunches for students in the Mid-Prairie Community School District will cost a little bit more next year.
At Monday’s meeting, the school board approved a 5-cent increase in the cost of student lunches for the 2019-20 school year.
Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber said that this is the second increase in the past three years.
Last spring, the board raised the cost from $3.05 to $3.10 for the current school year.
Next year, the cost will go up to $3.15.
The cost for breakfast will also go up from $1.85 to $1.90.
Swartzentruber said that the increases will generate more than $5,000 for the district next year.
This will help offset the district’s plan to hire a new head cook for the high school.
Amber Kempf has been serving a dual role of nutrition director and high school head cook.
The board discussed plans for Kempf to serve as nutrition director, handling the administrative responsibilities for the entire district’s nutrition program.
