The Mid-Prairie High School jazz band placed first in Class 2A at the district jazz contest March 2 at Iowa City West High School.
The band qualified for the Iowa Jazz Championships, which will be held in Ames April 2.
Other 2A schools in the competition were Eddyville-Blakesburg, West Branch, Louisa-Muscatine, Williamsburg, Mediapolis, Central Lee and Davis County.
The Iowa City competition was one of six districts in the state, with the top two finishers in each district heading to the state championship.
In addition to a trip to Ames, the band received a trophy.
“The Mid-Prairie students in the jazz band worked very hard to accomplish this goal,” band director David Kunz said.
