The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks marching band earned a Division 1 rating at the state marching band competition in Pella Saturday.
Led by drum majors Jarrod Keller and Natali Miller, the 42-piece Mid-Prairie band played the music of Tower of Power – “What is Hip?,” “So Very Hard To Go” and “Attitude Dance.”
“The students in the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk marching band worked very hard this marching season, and they earned their Division 1 rating,” band director David Kunz said. “I want to thank them for their dedication to marching band.”
The Highland marching band earned a Division 2 rating in the competition.
Led by drum major Breckyn Pokorny, the band’s show theme was Onomatopoeia and featured songs “Boom Boom,” “Thunder,” “Ho Hey” and “Bang Bang.”
“Our band continues to improve and make progress,” band director Mark Bressler said. “‘Getting better every day’ has become their motto. I’m proud of our senior leadership for creating a culture of success that our underclassmen will adopt and make their own.”
Bressler added Highland was the only Division 1A high school band in the competition.
“We would like more of our 1A brethren to join us at the state festival,” he said.
