Marie Hostetler won the individual race and the Mid-Prairie girls cruised to a big victory in the small-school division at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Saturday.
Hostetler, who is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, finished with a time of 18:20.7 to best Linn-Mar junior Micah Poellet by 14 seconds.
Poellet took an early lead on Hostetler, but by the middle of the second mile Hostetler had a firm lead on the No. 1 ranked runner in Class 4A.
Mid-Prairie took second overall among the 21 teams competing at the early-season invite packed with ranked teams. Waukee was the overall champion, scoring a 69 compared to Mid-Prairie’s 91.
In the orange division, broken off for Class 2A and 3A schools, Mid-Prairie took first place by a wide margin. The Golden Hawks had three in the top 10 and scored a 31 overall. Solon finished second in the orange division with a score of 94.
After Hostetler, Mitzi Evans, Abbagail Evans and Angelina Evans came in for Mid-Prairie.
Mitzi ran a 20:39 for second place in the orange division, Abbagail was seventh at 21:15 and Angelina was 11th at 21:38.
The next runner for Mid-Prairie was a new face to the varsity lineup in Sydney Yoder. The sophomore ran a time of 21:48 to be the final scoring member for Mid-Prairie at 13th in the orange division.
Each team was allowed to run 10 total varsity runners in the race.
Ana Fleming finished 16th with a time of 22:07, Jaden Yoder was 22nd in 22:38, Tabitha Evans was 60th in 24:42, Amara Jones was 69th in 25:33 and Emily Schlabach was 75th in 25:49.
Tabitha Evans, Jones and Schlabach all competed on varsity for the first time as a freshman.
Mid-Prairie won the orange division and finished fourth overall in the fresh/soph girls race featuring 104 runners. Brittany Kinsinger ran 20:00.5 to finish 25th overall, Grace Conway was 29th, Zoe Fisher was 45th, Sarah Meader 54th, Anna Nafziger 69th and Zebi Kimani 89th. Kinsinger was the top scorer in the orange division with Conway second.
The Golden Hawks also were back to being ranked No. 1 after the opening weekend. The Iowa Association of Track Coaches rankings for Sept. 3 moved Mid-Prairie from No. 3 to No. 1.
Individual rankings include Marie Hostetler at No. 1 and Mitzi Evans at No. 14.
The Golden Hawks are in action on Saturday in Pella at the Central College cross country course.
The starting gun for the meet is at 9:30 a.m.
