FORT DODGE

Danielle Hostetler and the Mid-Prairie girls cross country team made history Saturday.

Hostetler, a freshman, extended the Hostetler's family championship streak to five years and the Golden Hawks won their fourth consecutive Class 2A team state title, scoring a state record 45 points.

Four of the first nine finishers in the race were Golden Hawks, including No. 1 Hostetler, No. 3 Jaden Yoder, No. 7 Mitzi Evans and No. 9 Sydney Yoder. All achieved All-State status.

Ana Fleming, who finished 25th, became the first Golden Hawk to be a part of four state team champions.

Hostetler, who was unbeaten in her first season, won in a time of 19:08. Her older sister, Marie,  who now a freshman at Liberty University, won the last three state championships and finished second to her older sister, Anna, in her freshman year in 2016. Marie Hostetler flew in from Virginia to root Danielle on in Fort Dodge.

MId-Prairie's boys team, led by Jamie Stutzman's 20th-place finish, placed sixth.

Hillcrest Academy junior Leah Bontrager had a career-best finish in the Class 1A girls race. She finished 52nd.
