WILLAMSBURG

Coming off a conference dual win over Tipton, the Golden Hawk gals traveled to the Stone Creek Golf Course to compete with eight other teams in the Lady Raider Invite on April 10.

When it was all said and done, it was the hosting school Williamsburg who emerged victorious in this 18-hole contest with a first-place score of 348. Coming in second was Solon who shot a 365.

For Mid-Prairie they had a strong showing at Stone Creek, ending the Invitational with a score of 370 to claim fourth place overall. Their score broke a 14-year-old school record of 372 that was set by Mid-Prairie’s 2010 State Tournament team.

“This was a super day for the girls both individually and the team,” Mid-Prairie coach Tracy McArtor said. “This 4th place finish was only five shots out of 2nd place, so these girls are right there. Really steady play across the board like this will win a lot of meets for the girls.”

The highest placing Hawks were seniors Gabi Robertson and Madi Davidson. Both stellar senior golfers shot a 90 to tie for 7th place in the individual standings.

Also placing in the top 10 was junior Addison English, tying for 10th place with a score of 92.

Freshman Olivia Swartzendruber carded a 98 to place 18th.

Seniors Elliot Debler and Madison Witthoft finished with a score of 103 and 114 to place 20th and 32nd respectively.

“Strong play from Madi, Gabi, Addison and Olivia and great turn around play from Elliott and Madison with a combined 17 stroke improvement from the front nine to the back nine,” coach McArtor said.

“What I love about how the kids are playing is that they all know there is still room for improvement and are anxious to make those fixes to get better. They are really fun to watch, and I would encourage any of our Kalona members and others to come out to a meet and watch these kids play.”

Up next for Mid-Prairie (7-3) is a home contest, properly titled the Golden Hawk Girls Golf Invitational, at the Kalona Golf Course on April 19.
