WELLMAN

Mid-Prairie's boys basketball team routed West Liberty 65-35 on Thursday night to advance to a district final on Tuesday, Feb. 23, against Camanche.

Jack Pennington hit a game-high four 3-pointers for the Golden Hawks and scored 17 points.

Alex Bean and Carter Harmsen each added 12 points.

Mid-Prairie blew the game open by outscoring West Liberty 18-9 in the second quarter, scoring 12 points on 3-pointers.

The Golden Hawks held West Liberty to four points in the third quarter on their way to an 11th consecutive victory over West Liberty in a streak dating back to 2016.

Mid-Prairie (15-7) is within two wins of reaching the state tournament. Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. game against Camanche (16-6) at West Liberty is a rematch of an earlier game played this season in which Camanche defeated the Golden Hawks, 66-51.

If the Golden Hawks defeat Camanche, they'll play Pekin or West Burlington in a 2A substate final on Feb. 27 at Muscatine.
