Masks now required in Johnson County

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pass a resolution to approve a face covering/mask regulation from the Johnson County Board of Health at their Aug. 6 meeting.

The resolution went into effect on Aug. 10.

It will expire when the governor’s proclamation of disaster emergency expires or when the Johnson County Board of Supervisors’ declaration of public health disaster expires, whichever date is later.

The resolution requires every person in Johnson County to wear a face covering/mask when in public settings indoors and outdoors when it is not possible to keep six feet away from others.

Public settings include, but are not limited to, stores, schools, public transportation or other public settings that are not one’s place of residence or with people who do not live in the same household.

It applies to all areas and municipalities in Johnson County unless a municipality has previously issued a face covering/mask order.

The resolution is not intended to be punitive or stigmatizing and is in the best interest of health, safety and economic recovery.

A violation shall constitute a simple misdemeanor.
