Washington businessman Marcus Fedler, with a total of 98 votes, won the March 2 special election to fill the vacant seat on the Washington County Board of Supervisors, District 3. Felder will serve the remainder of Abe Miller’s term, who resigned January 27.

Fedler, who ran for the board a decade ago, will be sworn in March 16. The term runs through December 31, 2021. Fedler is resident of Ainsworth.

He was one of four candidates seeking the post with Dwight Miller, also of Ainsworth, the second highest candidate with 85 votes. The other two candidates were Johnathan Bartholomew, Brighton, 72 votes, and Joshua Schreiber, Washington, 50.

For the City of Washington, retired city clerk Illa Earnest won the Ward 3 council seat to fill the term vacated by Brandon DeLong. Haleigh Brockman, the only other candidate for the seat, received 39 votes.

In the third special election on Tuesday, Highland School District patrons approved the physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) by a vote of 205 yes to 56 no, well above the required 51% majority.  Voter turnout was 9.34% and included 11 absentee ballots.  The measure is for a period of 10 years.
