Kalona came back in usual style last Friday night by whipping the Wellman Wildcats 44 to 17.

Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Yoder entertained at a family dinner Sunday including Mr. and Mrs. Mose Yoder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Knepp and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. John Yoder and Larry, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Yoder and Karen, Mr. and Mrs. Bart Yotty and sons and Orpha Yoder of Chicago.

Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Hochstetler were Mr. and Mrs. Homer Yoder and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gingerich, Robert, Stanley, Duane and Emma Jean Schrock.

Mrs. Lloyd Strickler, Mrs. Willis Gingerich and Mrs. Clifford Sommers spent Tuesday afternoon in Iowa City.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kallaus have received a letter from Sgt. Norman Kallaus that he has arrived in France.

Mary Ellen Swartzendruber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Swartzendruber underwent a major operation at the Mercy Hospital one day last week.

Dinner guests in the Herman Yoder home included Mrs. Lillian Swartzendruber and Geraldine, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Brenneman and family and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Swartzendruber and family.

Leona Patterson who operates the Sharon switchboard visited at the Ira Kinsinger home Sunday.

Wellman

Five new names have been added to the Wellman Community Honor Roll since it was last printed in The Advance. They are Howard H. Yoder, Wayne Johnson, Howard Walker, James Pence, Junior Henderson, Roy Taylor and Howard Durian.

A group of neighbors planned and carried out a surprise on Mr. and Mrs. Artemus Yoder Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Yoder have lived on the same farm for more than 30 years of their married life, but they are moving around the first of March to their new home in Iowa City. A wool blanket was given to them as a gift of remembrance. Those present were: Mrs. Abner Yoder, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Yoder, Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Litwiller, Stanley and Wilbur, Mr. and Mrs. Menno Gingerich and Esther, Mr. and Mrs. Erlis Kinsinger and Marvel, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swartzendruber, Fred Schrock, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Marner, Jimmy and Loris, Mr. and Mrs. Kores Kinsinger, Orpha and Loise, Simon Kinsinger, Marvin and Dorothy, Mr. and Mrs. Orvel Kinsinger, Carolyn, Phillip and Mary Kate, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Kinsinger, Marilyn and Myrna, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Yoder, Betty and Dorothy, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Yoder.

The A. L. C. Club met at the home of Mrs. Lyle Wade for a potluck dinner. Three new members, Mrs. Leo Gislain, Mrs. Elwin Wade and Mrs. Gail Cupp were admitted to the club.

Neighbors and friends gathered at the farm of Chris Burkholder and husked 440 bushels of corn for him this week. Mrs. Omar Marner, Mrs. Dan J. S. Miller, Mildred and Imogene Gingerich helped serve lunch to the men.

Present were H. G. Swartzendruber, Enos Steckley, Ernest Yoder, Omar Marner, Marion Yoder, Max Yoder, Alvin Stoltzfus, Dale Huffman, Roy Swartzendruber, Ralph Gingerich, Charles Eckhardt, Dan J. S. Miller, Willard Miller, Enos Miller, Simon Kinsinger, Marvin Kinsinger, Russell Kinsinger, Wilford Stutzman, Homer Wenger, Harold Bender, Ivan Miller, M. S. Miller, John Stoltzfus, Cletus Stoltzfus, Kores Yoder, Dan Jr. Miller, Frank Rugg, Earnie Martin, Noah Gingerich and Kores Kinsinger.

Staff Sgt. Marlo Matthes, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Matthes of Wellman, was shot in the leg in Germany, according to a letter received here by his cousin, Lorna Matthes.
