LONE TREE
Happy about receiving a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for $32,340 on Nov. 29., - see "WCRF awards $299,300 grant to Kalona Historical Society for rail exhibit" for more information - Lone Tree held their regular city council meeting on Monday, Dec. 4.
The council discussed the need to fill a new council vacancy, which they will do at their next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The open seat is that of Ryan Ronan, who has served on the council for six years.
The council recently filled a seat in September by appointment as well, approving Jennifer Poeschel. Poeschel was then elected to the council in the November election. The process is not new for the council; they’ll be looking for community involvement to help fill this seat.
The council discussed the possibility of layering City Hall and the wastewater treatment plant with solar panels with a representative from Atwood Energy Solutions. They also received proposals from EPO Energy and Rabe Hardware.
The council decided they would move forward with learning more about solar possibilities. They want to decide by next October how to use their remaining ARPA funds, which must be allocated by that time.
The council also made three different appointments at this meeting. They named Crystal K. Raiber of Phelan Tucker Law LLP as city attorney; Hart-Frederick Consultants P.C. as city engineer and planner; and The News as the city’s official newspaper.
Next meeting: The next Lone Tree city council meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2. Following that, their next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 5. Both of these meetings will be followed by budget workshops.
