The Lone Tree community enthusiastically supports the local school.

Monday students at the school gave back to the community that provides that ongoing support.

Nearly 300 students fanned out across Lone Tree to do community service projects on Monday afternoon.

Students raked leaves in about 50 yards. The classes of students doing in just minutes a task that would take homeowners several hours.

School counselor Shelby Bryce said other students stayed inside, making wreaths and cooking meals.

Lisa Meissner’s family and consumer science class was busy in the kitchen. They made a meal for a family who recently had a death.

The class made desserts for the local senior dining center.

In Laura McGavey’s art class, students made 14 wreaths that were taken to senior dining and to Pioneer Park continuing care retirement community.

“They turned out amazing,” Bryce said. “The people were so excited when I brought them to senior dining.”

Another group of students went to Pioneer Park to play bingo with residents there.

Some students went to elementary school classrooms where they helped teachers and were reading buddies with the younger students.

In the high school, some students collected food and organized the school’s food pantry, which was started earlier this year.

Bryce said the students took away lessons about the positive impact they can have on their school, their community and the world.

“We like to give back to our community,” she said. “Our community does so much for us.”
