THORNBURG

The Lone Tree Lions got the job done when playing the Tri-County Trojans on Monday, Dec. 18.

The Lions won 64-37 over the Trojans. It was not an upset win for the Lions. The Lions are now 5-5 on the year while the Trojans remain winless at 0-8.

Lone Tree v. Pekin, Dec. 15

The Lone Tree Lions lost to the Pekin Panthers 64-63 on Friday, Dec. 15, in a tightly contested back-and-forth matchup. Despite the loss and a record of 4-4, no one can question the quick turnaround of this Lion basketball program.

The Lions concluded their 2022-23 season with a record of 7-16 - including a 74-58 loss to Pekin.

They’re now just three games back from their season total a year ago with nearly two months to play.

Lone Tree wasted no time by holding a 14-8 lead after one quarter. At halftime, Lone Tree was behind 28-27.

The second half was a constant back-to-back where neither team could solidify a lead.

Lone Tree would seize a lead and the crowd would erupt.

Pekin would reclaim the lead and the visiting fans would quiet the home crowd.

Lone Tree would re-take the lead and the fans would deafen the visiting ears.

It took a very late three-pointer from Pekin’s Kasey Davis to create enough distance for the win.

Louisa-Muscatine 66, Lone Tree 52

After recording their first back-to-back wins of the season, the Lions were unable to make it three in a row, falling on the road to the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on Dec. 12.

In front of their home crowd, the Falcons truly separated from the Lions in this contest after scoring 20 in the second and third quarter. They went into the final frame with a 24 point lead.

The Lions battled back, scoring 22 in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too great to overcome.

Louisa-Muscatine earned its third win of the season while Lone Tree saw its record drop to 4-3.

Lousia-Muscatine’s leading scorer this season, senior Ty Northup, scored a team high 19 points. Also reaching double digits for the Falcons was fellow senior Dawson Downing, scoring 11.

Lone Tree was led by three senior Lions all scoring a team high 11 points: Ethan Bockelman, Pietro Setti, and William Rockafellow. Setti also led the team in rebounds with nine

Lone Tree also played against WACO on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Now, Lone Tree will enter Winter Break, returning to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 2, for a matchup against Wapello.
