Facing nearly full lineups from Wapello and Louisa-Muscatine, Lone Tree dropped a pair of conference duals at a home meet last Thursday.
The Lions had one wrestler pick up wins in both duals in Tim Mills. The 220-pounder for the Lions pinned both opponents in the first period.
The first dual of the night came against Wapello. The first five matches were forfeits in favor of Wapello to push their lead to 30-0. At 138 pounds, Lone Tree’s Matthew Hemsted was pinned in the first period. At 145 pounds Matt Carlson was pinned in the first period. At 152 pounds, Caden Smith was pinned in the second period.
Lone Tree picked up their first win of the dual with a pin by Will Hotz in 3:07. The last contested match was a Mills pin over Owen Housman in 10 seconds.
In a second dual against Louisa-Muscatine, the Lions lost 41-6. The only win of the night was Mills pinning Spencer Kessel in 1:01. Lone Tree’s other wrestlers all lost by fall or tech fall.
Six of the 14 weights saw no team points as they were double-forfeits.
On Saturday the Lions traveled to Tri-County High School for a 12-team tournament.
Mills was the highest finisher for Lone Tree at second place. His only loss came to a ranked wrestler. In the finals he faced off with Class 1A No. 4 at 220 pounds Cale Anthony of Pleasantville. Mills went into the second period with him before being pinned.
Will Hotz finished in fourth place at 170 pounds. Caden Smith (152) and Matt Carlson (145) both finished fifth.
