Lone Tree FFA opens food pantry

The Lone Tree FFA has started a food pantry to help students and their families who are in need.

Senior Abby Buckman told the school board about the project on Sept. 11.

The food pantry will be open two times per month when families and teachers can pick up food. There is a qualifications form to complete.

HACAP – the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program – delivers food for the program to the school. Plus, there are donation boxes in the school offices.

The FFA has done a number of community service projects over the years.

“We thought this would specifically help our school,” she said.

Sept. 11 was the first day for the pantry to be open, but nobody came, according to Buckman.

“I’m sure November and December it will pick up,” Superintendent Ken Crawford said.
