Lone Tree FFA attends National Convention

On Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 10 members of the Lone Tree FFA chapter traveled to Indianapolis for the 92nd National FFA Convention and Expo.

As the streets were flooded with blue corduroy, members had many opportunities and experiences throughout their time in Indianapolis.

On their first full day in Indianapolis, members, along with advisor Bridget Mahoney, toured Kelsey Farms.

Here, they learned about the struggles in dairy production, ag tourism and education.

They also had the opportunity to attend the career fair and expo.

Here, members talked to hundreds of industry representatives about the latest technologies in agriculture.

The Lone Tree chapter especially enjoyed meeting with Terra Products to talk about the National Blue Ice Melt sales.

Lone Tree is the first chapter in the nation to work with Terra Products for their annual FFA sales.

Members also were able to network with collegiate representatives about the different programs available to future students.

At the end of the day, members got to watch the first general session, where they learned about the national officers and listened to best-selling author, Bob Goff.

After cleaning up, they headed to the Old Dominion concert in Bankers Life Stadium.

The following day, Lone Tree got up bright and early and headed to Amos-Hill to tour and learn about veneer production.

Here, they got to learn about how logs get transformed to veneers.

After learning lots, they drove to Louisville, Ky., where they toured Churchill Downs and even got to watch a race.

Many students were fascinated with the history of the Kentucky Derby.

The third stop of the day was at Louisville Slugger. While walking through the factory and museum, they learned about how bats are made and why MLB players use different bats.

The last stop for Thursday was at Hunter’s Honey Farm. Students received their own honey, tasted different products, and learned about the benefits, products and process of honey bees.

The highlights of Friday include visiting Evan’s Whispering Pines Christmas Tree Farm and going to another general session.

During their visit to the Christmas tree farm, members learned how trees are planted, and got to make their own swags to take home.

At the end of the day, the Lone Tree FFA chapter went back to Lucas Oil Stadium to listen to #Hellofears author Michelle Poler.

Saturday morning Lone Tree FFA members got up early to watch Lone Tree FFA alumni Peyton Schmitt and Spencer Arnold walk across the stage to receive their American FFA degree.

Later Saturday, members ate breakfast at Indy’s Historic Steer-In restaurant.

Afterwards, they headed back to Lucas Oil to prepare for the last general session of the 92nd National FFA Convention.
