Lone Tree Democrats preparing for caucus

Lone Tree Democrats are expecting nearly 200 people to attend the caucuses on Feb. 3, according to Jon Green, the temporary chair for the Lone Tree caucuses, which include Fremont and Liberty townships.

The caucus will be held at the Lone Tree High School cafeteria. Republicans will be meeting across the hall in the school library.

Green has been contacting representatives of the top Democrat candidates, “to ensure the process goes smoothly.”

“I want everybody to feel they are getting a fair shake,” he said.

Each campaign is asked to provide volunteers to help with registration and counting the people who caucus for each candidate.

One thing the Democratic Party is doing this year to speed up the registration process is allowing early check-in online prior to the caucus. Instructions can be found on the state party website, IowaDemocrats.org.

“I encourage as many people as possible to do that,” Green said. “You print off a sheet from your computer and show up at the caucus; you don’t have to get in line. You go straight to the front of the line, show them your piece of paper and you are immediately admitted.”

Those with questions about the Lone Tree caucus may contact Green by phone or email, 307-828-1004 or Jonathan.E.Green@gmail.com.
