The City Council on Dec. 2 approved the purchase for $45,900.
The new truck will replace a 1997 city truck that will be sold on a government surplus website.
City Clerk Stephanie Dautremont said the money will come from a certificate of deposit the city maintains for purchasing plow trucks. The CD currently has $105,000. The city adds $35,000 to the CD each budget year.
The city currently has two trucks used for plowing – a 1997 and a 1998. Both were purchased used.
The 2012 International will be purchased from Truck Country in Cedar Rapids. A similar truck purchased new would be more than $160,000.
