At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Lone Tree City Council discussed the possibility of allowing chickens within the city limits.
The issue was raised by resident Kyle Zaruba who did not have a specific request for raising chickens.
City Clerk Stephanie Dautremont prepared a packet of information from other cities that have considered the issue.
Most notably, neighboring Riverside has an application process that must be approved by the City Council. Last April, a 14-year-old girl applied to the council and was approved for a chicken coop.
Riverside ordinances allow up to six hens but no roosters within the city limits. The girl had to get approval from neighbors within 200 feet of the coop.
Dautremont said the Lone Tree council took no action. The issue could come up again at a future council meeting.
