Lone Tree boys finish first at WACO

The Lone Tree boys took first place at the WACO Relays on Tuesday, April 6 led in points by Nick Staltzman, Tyler Bell, and Alex Viner. With 118 points the Lions edged English Valleys for first-place by 10 points. Iowa Valley finished a point ahead of host WACO in third place with 78. 

Staltzman won the 800-meter run for Lone Tree with a time of 2:16.89 and finished second in the two-mile race as well. Bell finished first in the shot put with a throw of 36-05.5 and was second in the discus with a toss of 118-04. 

Viner scored a team-high 16 points with second place finishes in the 100-meter dash and long jump. He also finished third in the 200-meter race. 

Cale Christofferson finished second in the 1600-meter, finishing two seconds ahead of Iowa Valley’s Peyton Struik with a time of 5:27.33.

Cade Patterson and Ethan Willoz finished second and third in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:03.90 and 1:05.77, respectively. 

Cade Shield was third in the open 400-meter and Alberto Cortes finished third in the 800-meter run. 

The Lions won both the 4x200 and distance medley relays. 

Kasey Chown had the top finish for the Lady Lions with a second-place leap of 4-06 in the high jump. Springville finished first out of the eight girls teams with 107 points, ahead of English Valleys with 104 and WACO with 103. Lone Tree finished eighth with 24 points. 

Patterson had the best individual finish for the Lone Tree boys on Thursday at West Burlington with a second-place time of 1:06.42 in the 400-meter hurdles. 

Willoz, Andrew Gauley, Andrew Hotz, and Patterson finished first in the Shuttle hurdle relay, and the Lions also won the distance medley relay with Viner, Patterson, Shield and Staltzman. 

The Lone Tree girls were in West Branch on Thursday. Avery Lisk led the Lady Lions with a fourth-place finish in the long jump. She was also fifth in the 400-meter dash.
