Lois Eileen Plank

Lois Eileen Plank was born April 26, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Perry M. and Mabel (Miller) Bontrager.  She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1972 and attended Rosedale Bible Institute. 

On Feb. 1, 1975, Lois was united in marriage to Marc Plank at the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona.  They lived in Illinois and Florida, but lived the majority of their married life in Wellman. 

Lois was a customer service representative at Federation Bank in Wellman.  She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where she served on many committees.  She served on the Wellman Cooperative Telephone Board and volunteered at the Crowded Closet.  She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. 

Lois passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at her home in Wellman following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 65 years.

Lois is survived by her husband: Marc of Wellman; a son: Justin (Brenda) Plank of Greenwood, Del.; two daughters: Allyce (Chris) Bender of Washington and Malerie Plank of Wellman; four grandchildren: Eva and Elena Bender and Waylon and Wynston Plank; two sisters: Miriam (Dave) Miller of Riverside and Ruth (Paul) Hershberger of Kalona; and three brothers: Dan Bontrager of Iowa City, Dave (Mary) Bontrager of Iowa City, and Steve (Peggy) Bontrager of Tulsa, Okla. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter: Eliza Bender; and a sister-in-law: Gloria Bontrager.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona.  Pastor Don Patterson officiated.  Burial was in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.  A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and The Crowded Closet.  Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for the family.  www.powellfuneralhomes.com
