Let’s band together to defeat COVID-19

This week marks one year since COVID-19. Governor Reynolds issued the State of Public Health Disaster Emergency on March 17, 2020 and from then on, many Iowans stayed home for months. We wore masks, we washed our hands, we backed up our essential and healthcare workers with whatever support we could muster. The world changed.

Since last March, 5,675 Iowans have lost their lives to the coronavirus, including 75 in Johnson County and 48 in Washington County. Every single one of these deaths is tragic and my heart goes out to families and friends who have lost loved ones in this pandemic. I know there’s little we can do to heal your hurt.

But the end is in sight. Gov. Reynolds announced that every Iowan should be eligible for vaccine by April 5. I encourage everyone to get their shot as soon as they are able — let us link our vaccinated arms together and help each other lift Iowa out of this world-changing pandemic.
