Larry “Red” Aldeman, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at his home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at 6 p.m., at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook page. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for the family’s use.

Red Aldeman was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Caleb and Cleo (Hedges) Aldeman.  He graduated from City High School in 1961.  He was united in marriage to Susan Grimm. Two sons were born to this union: Wes and Jaime.  The couple later divorced.  He was married to Barbara Harvey, they later divorced. To this union two children were born: Clint and Abby Aldeman. 

He owned and operated the Chicken House in Kalona from 1976 to 1983.  He managed the Hard Luck from 1983 until he opened Red’s Tallyrand in Keota in 2001.  Red enjoyed telling jokes and stories, he loved being a grandpa, liked watching the Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys, and watching baseball, especially the Cubs and Yankees.

Survivors include three children: Wes Aldeman of Orange Park, Florida, Clint (Morgan) Aldeman of Cedar Rapids, and Abby Aldeman of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren: Grayson Ballard, Jake and Kyle Johnston, Brynn, Sailor and Crew Aldeman; two great-grandchildren; and one brother: Caleb Aldeman of Iowa City.

Preceding Red in death were his parents; his step-father: Ray Kinsinger; son: Jaime Aldeman; two brothers: Ron and Bill Aldeman; and an infant sister
