A graveside service for Larry K. Skola, 76, of Blue Grass, will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona.  In lieu of flowers memorial funds may be given to the Kalona Historical Society. Larry passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. The Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

He was born June 1, 1944, in Kalona, Iowa, and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1962.  You could see him many times at the local car garage and throwing the Sunday Des Moines Register from the back of Ferd’s tailgate.

After high school he attended automotive trade school in St. Louis, Missouri.  In later years, he worked at International Harvester building silos, as a bartender at Top Hat Bar in Davenport, worked at Berry Bering in Moline for 27 years as their lead customer relations and at Iowa Battery in Bettendorf, Iowa, in service for at least 10 years, before retiring to his “Skolaland,” 20 acres of beautiful forest near Muscatine.

He loved driving his 1965 blue Corvette and his dad’s Model A and refurbishing his ‘57 Chevrolet and ‘54 panel truck.

He is survived by two sons: Andrew Dean of Iowa City and Christopher Lee of Webster City, Iowa; one granddaughter: Taryn from Webster City; one great- granddaughter; sisters: Sue Delmark of Argyle, Texas and Sally Harper of Davenport; and brother: Jan of Camdenton, Missouri; and many friends.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents: Ferd and Velma Skola.
