After a slow start, Lone Tree played one of its best offensive halves of the season in a 65-44 at HLV on Tuesday.
Down by a point at halftime, the Lady Lions outscored the Warriors 25-10 in the third quarter.
“I was extremely happy with our girls’ performance,” Lone Tree coach Ryan Shelman said.
“We just put a whole game together. We rebounded well especially on the offensive end, we were able to get the ball inside and we took care of the basketball and didn’t have a lot of unforced turnovers and we shot the ball really well. We also did a great job of getting to the free throw line and making the most of our opportunities.”
Kasey Chown scored six of her 17 points at the free throw line. She grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
“She really went and got the ball on both ends and did a great job shooting it inside,” Shelman said. “Josie (Mullinnix) also did a great job of establishing post position.”
Mullinnix finished with eight points and six rebounds. Her fellow seniors Allison Marshek and Maddie Jacque scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.
“Allison was able to get going by getting some easy put backs which led into having a great shooting performance in the second half,” Shelman said. Our guards did a good job of getting it inside and our post too it from there.”
After shooting 3-22 from the 3-point line in the previous game, Lone Tree was on fire from behind the arc Tuesday, making 9 of 20. Riley Krueger was 3-6 and Jacque was 3-7.
“Riley and Maddie did a great job shooting the ball in the second half, in which we were able to extend our lead,” Shelman said. “Madelyn McCoullough was also able to chip in a shot to help extend our lead. Our other players also did a great job defensively and taking care of the ball.”
McCullough had five assists and four steals. Jacque led the Lady Lions defensively with seven steals.
Lone Tree (3-11) snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win over the 9-9 Warriors.
