L. Leroy Nissley, 90, of rural Riverside, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at his home.  A private family service was held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  Burial followed at the South Sharon “Grout” Cemetery.  The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home Facebook Page.   A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and the South Sharon “Grout” Cemetery.

  L. Leroy Nissley was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Garnett, Kan., the son of Chris D. and Sarah (Yoder) Nissley.  He was married to Nancy Bowers and after her death, he married Sandy Brown.  After her death, he was united in marriage to Nancy (Grout) Duwa on Nov. 26, 1997, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church.   

Leroy worked for the Iowa D.O.T. in maintenance for 40 years. After retiring he worked at John Roffman Construction as a painter for 21 years.  He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, mowing, and especially spending time with his grandkids and family.

Survivors include his wife: Nancy of Riverside; four sons: Eugene (Pat) Nissley of West Branch, John (Sandy) Nissley of Greenville, S.C., Terry (Denise) Nissley of Lacey, Wash., and Randy (Deb) Nissley of Hills, Iowa; three stepchildren: Michele (Steve) Phillips of Riverside, Angie (Greg) Hall of Washington, and Lori Seydel of Tipton; multiple grand and great- grandchildren; nine siblings: Mary (Russell) Bell of Alabama, Ann (Jonas) Hochstedler of Kalona, Heidi Smucker of Spring Hills, Pa., Lonnie (Alma) Nissley, Chris (Fern) Nissley, Ivan (JoAnn) Nissley, Marie (Merrill) Detweiler and Carolyn (Marlin) Ebersol all of Florida, Pauline (Wayne) Miller of Colorado and Treva (Omar) Schrock of New Paris, Ind.; and three sisters-in-law: Susan Nissley of Denton, Texas, Arlene Nissley of Williamsburg, and Edith Nissley of Florida.

Preceding Leroy in death were his parents; two wives; two sons: Kevin and Mervin Nissley; three brothers: Nelson, Ira and John Nissley; and a brother-in-law: Paul Smucker.
