Keith Francis Schulty, 77, of Tipton, died unexpectedly late Tuesday evening, May 26, 2020, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, followed by a graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton.

In lieu of flowers and in Keith’s memory, the family has set up two memorial funds: The Tipton VFW Post No. 2537 and The American Lung Association of Iowa. Cards and memorials may be mailed c/o Marsha Schulty to 1804 Highway 38, Tipton, IA 52772.

Keith, son of Harold Lloyd and Minnie “Loree” (Sauner) Schulty was born on Monday, Dec. 21, 1942, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. He grew up in Wellman, Iowa, and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School with the Class of 1960. Keith’s first marriage to Jackie Blum ended shortly after their son, Robert, was born.

      On Nov. 22, 1967, Keith chose to serve his country by voluntarily enlisting in the U.S. Navy.  Before his honorable discharge on Aug. 4, 1971, Keith served two tours in Vietnam on the naval ships USS Tutuila ARG-4 and the USS Delta Order of the Mothball, and was awarded the following medals: Naval Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Vietnam Service Medal (VSM) and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (VCM-D).

On July 5, 1972, Keith was happily married to Marsha Ann Duffe at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Keith was a tool and die maker for Owens Brush, General Electric, Thomas & Betts, HWH and HON. He was a lifetime member of the Tipton VFW Post No. 2537, supported the NRA and enjoyed gunsmithing as a hobby. Keith’s family remember him as a loving husband and father who’s heart was large enough to welcome in and treasure his two favorite stray animals; his dog, “Bruno” and cat, “Baby.”

Keith is survived by his wife: Marsha Schulty of Tipton; four sons: Robert (Robin) Schulty of Wellman, Brett (Juanita) Schulty of Wellman, Bryce (Mary) Schulty of Centennial, Colo., and Brent (Barb) Schulty of Wellman; and cousins residing in the Wilton and Wellman areas.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Leroy and Ethel Schulty of Wellman; and parents: Harold and Minnie “Loree” Schulty.
