The Kalona City Council met briefly via Zoom on Friday, June 30 to close out the fiscal year ending on that date.
In his Administrator’s Report, Ryan Schlabaugh ran through a few highlights the City is working on, including the rescheduled Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise, which was cancelled due to rain and is now planned for Saturday, August 5. Construction on the Student-Built duplex is “going very, very good” and will see the trusses go up, followed by the roof in coming weeks. The Veterans Tribute video created by Storyline Multimedia with the cooperation of the City “will be great,” Schlabaugh said; it was shown on July 3 in Richmond and July 4 in Wellman before the fireworks displays, and is also viewable on the City’s website.
The Council acknowledged receipt of $62,997.06 in WCRF municipal grant funds, “which might be one of the top two or three highest we’ve ever seen,” Schlabaugh said. The City recently used WCRF funds to install the new ADA inclusive playground at Kalona City Park, create a pocket park on B Avenue, and purchase egaming equipment used at the YMCA.
