Kalona Brewing Company will proudly celebrate 7 years of craft beer and local, scratch-focused food with a weekend beer release, dinner features, and a performance by Hannah Frey on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 405 B Avenue, Kalona, Iowa. Kalona Brewing Company opened their doors on Sept. 13, 2013 with co-owners Ted and Becky Nagy, and founding brewer, Lew Brewer (his real name!).
Since then the brewery has grown into self-distribution with award-winning beers at shops and on taps across eastern and central Iowa, and as a popular destination spot in Washington County.
For the occasion, head brewer Warren “W” Yoder brings back the favorite anniversary beer Old Soul Wee Heavy Scotch Ale.
The big, yet unassuming Scotch ale is subtle, layered, and lingering with tasting notes of plum, date, raisin, and chocolate which sit on the tongue and then blanket the mouth.
To close the weekend, Hannah Frey, an Iowa City based singer-songwriter will charm guests with her unique indie folk pop sound and voice noted for its “retro-smooth tonality (Little Village Magazine).” Frey independently released her first album, ‘White Picket Fence,’ in Dec. 2019, showcasing her addictively introspective style with modern yet timeless lyrics and warm, nuanced vocals, and which has already gained airplay on Iowa Public Radio.
