Johnson County hosts Community Supported Agriculture info session

The term “Community Supported Agriculture,” also referred to as a CSA, may sound a little mystifying. But getting fresh produce weekly during the growing season is easy to understand — and enjoy. That is the point of a CSA and its subscription-based model of local food distribution.

Johnson County is hosting an online learning session, “Got Veggies?” so the public can learn more about CSAs and how to subscribe to one. The session is free and open to anyone. It will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6 via Zoom. To register, visit tinyurl.com/GOTVEGGIES2021.

The session will feature nutritional information as well as a question-and-answer period with several local farmers who participate in CSAs.

The event is hosted by Johnson County local government’s Local Foods Program, Green Team and Wellness Program in conjunction with Field to Family, an area nonprofit organization that works to create a more local, healthy and sustainable food system. Speakers will include Ilsa DeWald, local foods coordinator, and Jamie Huntly, health planner, both with Johnson County; and Julia Poska, communications and outreach coordinator for Field to Family.

For more information, contact Ilsa DeWald at idewald@johnsoncountyiowa.gov or 319-356-6000.
