The Kalona Volunteer Fire Department’s new pumper tanker truck arrived at the station on Thursday, Feb. 22. The much-needed update to the fleet will give Kalona’s firefighters the ability to respond quickly, effectively, and safely to emergencies.
The long-awaited truck cost about a half-million dollars. Half of the truck was paid for by a Riverboat grant of $230,000 awarded in Fall 2022. The other half? “Pancakes,” Fire Chief Jerry Zahradnek told The News.
