Highland’s volleyball team began its season with a pair of victories over Keota and Lone Tree.
The Huskies’ first losses came this past Saturday in the New London Tournament against Danville, New London and Pekin.
The Huskies lost a three-set thriller to Danville, 21-14, 18-21, 13-15. They also lost 21-8, 21-11 to host New London and then 21-16, 21-12 against Pekin.
Aviana West and Carlea Beckman each had four kills for Danville.
Sofie Reighard of New London had nine kills and Paris Wilka had five kills in the win over the Huskies. In the Pekin match, Allison Bainbridge of Pekin had seven kills, three aces and a pair of blocks.
Highland’s next match is a big one. The Huskies take on powerhouse Mediapolis next Tuesday in Mediapolis. It will be the season opener for the Bulldogs, who won 41 matches last year.
The Huskies began their season with a pair of victories in the Keota Tournament on August 24.
Highland swept host Keota in two sets and defeated rival Lone Tree, 2-1, in a three-set thriller.
Highland won the match over Keota by 25-17 and 25-12 scores.
The Huskies lost their first set against Lone Tree by a 25-21 score, but then rallied for the win by capturing the second set, 25-19, and the deciding third set, 15-13.
