Hostetler paces sweep by Hawks

Danielle Hostetler led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Mid-Prairie cross country girls in the Pella Invitational this past Saturday.

Hostetler, a freshman who set a school record in her high school debut on August 29, captured first place in the small school division with a time of 18:16 in the Pella meet, winning the race by more than two minutes. Completing the Golden Hawks sweep were twin sisters Sydney Yoder, in second place with a time of 20:24, and Jaden Yoder, finishing third in a time of 20:27.

They helped the Mid-Prairie girls to their second team victory in as many weeks.

The Mid-Prairie boys also won a team title for the second straight week. Thaddeus Shetler, Jamison Stutzman and Chandler Hershberger finished 2-3-4 for the Golden Hawks behind winner Carson Houg of Des Moines Christian.

Five of the top nine finishers in the boys race were Golden Hawks. Shetler finished in 17:18, ending up just 19 seconds behind Houg. Lucas Bontrager and Nathan Wallington finished eighth and ninth, respectively, to secure team points for Mid-Prairie.

Also finishing among the top 20 in the girls race were No. 11 Abby Fleming, 22:15; No. 14 Amara Jones, 23:00; and No. 19 Grace Conway, 24:00.

Volleyball

Mid-Prairie will put its unbeaten streak on the line Thursday at West Liberty.

The Golden Hawks have won their first four matches, all by sweeps.

They swept Durant by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-20, for their fourth consecutive win on September 1.

Tori Boyse had a team-high seven kills and four aces for Mid-Prairie.
