HILLS
The Hills City Council met on Wednesday, Dec. 27, for a regular meeting, which was pushed back from Monday to accommodate the Christmas holiday.
The council elected Cathy Knebel as mayor pro tem for the next two years, allowing her to act in the place of mayor Tim Kemp in the event of his absence. She led the meeting that followed.
In this meeting, the council said goodbye to Merle Hill as it would be his last city council meeting with Hills. Newcomer Michelle Rummelhart will fill his seat in the new year.
Aside from Hill’s departure, the council will otherwise remain constant, as Kemp was re-elected mayor and council members Knebel, Guy Sommers and Teresa Volk were all re-elected in November. Emily Hudachek’s term will not expire until 2025.
When the meeting began, Maggie Burger with Speer Financial visited to discuss a possible road project. The council did not take any action following the presentation.
Council action
The council approved a resolution from Central Iowa Televising LLC for sanitary sewer rehab. This common practice will help reduce extraneous water. Extraneous water is water that is not intended in the sewer system, thus preventing structural failure.
The council also approved Positive Bank Pay with Hills Bank, an automatic failsafe to check for check fraud.
The council approved a budget workshop meeting to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024.
Finally, City Administrator Adriane Sedlacek announced the tree pick-up will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Next council meeting: Hills City Council will next converge Monday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hills Community Center.
