The Huskies arrived at Hillcrest on Tuesday night shorthanded, and short on practice time. The Ravens took advantage, building a 23-point first half lead on the way to a 60-25 win.

Eli Ours went 5-8 from the 3-point line and was the only player in double figures for either team with 21 points. He also had five of Hillcrest’s 17 steals.

John Hughes had six points during an 11-0 Hillcrest run over the last 2:26 of the first quarter. Five Ravens had at least one field goal during the first eight minutes as Hillcrest built an 18-2 lead.

Hughes finished with nine points. Noah Miller had seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Grant Bender had three assists and two steals, while Luck Schrock stole the ball four times.

At one point last week, Highland coach Bill Zywiec had just five players at practice. A few came back and were available Tuesday after just one day of practice, but the team was still missing two starters.

Chase Schultz scored Highland’s first five points and finished with a team-high seven. He also had over half of his team’s rebounds with 11. Senior Ramses Vergara had six points and Connor Grinstead added five.

Will Kolk had a team-high five rebounds had the final three points of the first half for Hillcrest, who led 31-8 at halftime.

“It was great to get out to a good start, and force them to play from behind early,” Hillcrest coach Dwight Gingerich said.

“Our ball movement was pretty good against the zone, and defensively we were active and forced turnovers. It’s always good to get court time for our reserves, who have been giving a great effort in practice.”

Jace Rempel was 2-2 in the second half for five points and fellow sophomore Josiah Beachy was 2-3, finishing with four.
