Hillcrest Academy opts for a virtual commencement

Hillcrest Academy is moving forward with plans for a virtual commencement ceremony.

On Monday, Hillcrest Principal Dwight Gingerich said that the graduation committee met on May 14 and decided on the virtual ceremony.

“Johnson County Public Health was able to join the graduation committee’s Zoom meeting Thursday and share their recommendation,” Gingerich said.

He said that public health officials said that it is unlikely that the 10-person gathering limit would be expanded by June 14, the date set earlier this month for the school’s rescheduled graduation ceremony.

Gingerich said that a drive-in ceremony was also considered but weather concerns made it unfeasible.

“Details for the ceremony will be worked out and announced soon,” he said.

The ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m., June 14 and will be livestreamed.
