Highland tops Lone Tree, falls to Louisa-Muscatine

Highland 9, Lone Tree 5

On June 16, Highland traveled to Lone Tree, earning a 9-5 road win.

Highland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run first inning. Lone Tree countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Highland scored three runs in the top of the third, while the Lions managed a lone run in the bottom of the frame.

The Huskies increased their lead to 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lions roared back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-5 game.

However, Highland answered with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Sophomore Grace Batcheller struck out five for the Huskies, while freshman Jessica Kraus added three strikeouts in relief.

Highland freshman Abbi Stransky had four hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Sophomore Mackinze Hora had a pair of RBIs and scored a run.

 

June 18

Louisa-Muscatine 9, Highland 1

The Huskies were back at home on June 18 hosting Louisa-Muscatine.

The Highland offense struggled in the 9-1 loss.

Louisa-Muscatine jumped out to a 5-0 after the first two innings. They tacked on two runs in both the fourth and seventh innings.

Highland’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Abbi Stransky had a single and a double with an RBI.

Freshman Dani Laughlin scored Highland’s only run.
